Nivedita: A Synthesis of East and the West
This Book has been intended to have an impartial understanding of the contribution of Sister Nivedita to the Bengal Renaissance and to the Indian Nationalism.
The author seeks:
- To rediscover the teachings of Indian monk Vivekananda as perceived and articulated by Sister Nivedita;
- To present emphatically before contemporary and future generations the life and work of Sister Nivedita, one of the pioneers of modern India;
- To garner evidences and show how Sister Nivedita acted as a bridge between Western materialism and Indian spiritualism;
- To examine objectively how Sister Nivedita sought to introduce science and technology for the sake of building rational temper to liberate people from the shackles of poverty, superstitions and illiteracy in India;
- To enquire into Sister Nivedita’s robust faith in India’s Advaita philosophy.
Buddhist Psychology
Mind is a problematic concept; sundry attempts have already been made from different view points to clear up the problem. However, in this book an endeavour has been made to deal with the problem from Buddhist point of view. An attempt has been made not only to show how Mind functions, rather the task is undertaken to reveal what Mind is. Of course, Mind is not a material object, it is a stream of consciousness, a flow of thought and the body which rooms it is, according to Buddha, an aggregate of four great elements.
